7 month checkup for the Hamlets
Aug 31, 2006 at 10:28 PM Yet another trip to the doctor today, but now it's just a walk of a couple of blocks! There were a couple of seconds during which they were exposed to the sunlight, however, so of course we had to
put on their new sunglasses! Jonah chose this this day in particular to refuse to have anything to do with food and had a net breakfast of 2 oz (after a double puke) and a lunch of 1.5 oz. Not so great for the big weigh-in. Turns out he's gained 12 oz in 4 weeks.... just enough so the doctor isn't doing anything drastic, but he did listen to his heart carefully and ask us if he breathed rapidly while eating (he doesn't) as that could indicate a heart problem and eating might wear him out. My comment was that he just acts full after 2 oz sometimes, the same way Benj acts after 5 or 6 oz, and we can't get him to eat more. Alas, he still lurks beneath the charts... is there any other 7 month old still wearing #2 diapers?! The doctor said he's tracking along at the same growth rate, he's just not catching up -- but then again, he's been in the single digits for weight percentages since first measured at 10 weeks gestation. The doctor said if he's still this thin at around age one or so, we can start him on Pediasure. Actually, we'll do banana milkshakes with or something similar because the first ingredient of Pediasure is maltodextrin....blech. And poor little Benj has apparently taken to heart our jokes about his massive Thunder Thighs and Weight Watchers. He gained 1/4 of a pound in the last four weeks, which is pretty lousy. He did grow half an inch, though, putting him in the 50th percentile for height. His arms are starting to grow from baby-arms into little-boy-arms. He can sit unassisted for up to 30 seconds or so, which is a little advanced (finally, we have something advanced about these guys besides their vomiting capabilities!). Jonah can sit unassisted for a few seconds, which is right on track for his age (not even adjusted for preemie-ness).
