Little Bo Poop
It’s a toss up as to what the boys like most about potty training - - the piece of Cookie Crisp cereal each time the go, or running around the house half-naked. Because if they’re not half-naked, they totally forget about the whole potty thing. I’ve tried putting underwear on them and walking around the block. Jonah pees every time.
And the whole pooping thing – well – both boys realize it’s coming after it’s already coming. A little bit usually escapes en route and this is cause for Great Alarm and Much Panic. So off they run – a la Little Bo Peep’s sheep – bringing their poop behind them.
We explain to them that it’s not a big deal – next time just try to poop in the potty. Who knows when this will ever happen – Jonah is now up to half a dozen mini-poops a day, most of them coming the instant you put a diaper on him before sleeping.
A bonus of potty training is all the new phrases that they’re now learning. So when the three of us were crowded unto the stall in a public restroom while I used the facilities, Benjamin gives the general public a play-by-play:
“You pee in the potty, Mama? Yeah?
I can flush it?”
And right after I tell Jonah to stop laying down on the floor (I really hope Jonathan is not reading this), Benjamin squeals:
“YOU DID IT, MAMA!
YOU PEED IN THE POTTY!
YOU GET A TREAT!”
