In which I am left literally speechless
A woman called me this week to ask for a reference on a woman I hired a few months ago to work with children in the mornings. She wanted to hire her as a nanny in the afternoons.
“I hired her in January and she has always been punctual, reliable, and ….” I started.
“Oh that’s great,” she interrupted. “You never know when people might make up references these days. I just want her in the afternoons when my son gets home from school – I won’t steal her away from you in the mornings! Thanks so much for returning my call, bye-bye!”
Click.
“….good with the children. She’s patient, and kind, and is good at thinking of things to do,” I say the most important part to the dead phone line.
Really, really glad I’m not the new nanny.
