Interview: Holly’s Corner
Today is the first of a series of interviews of up-and-coming bloggers whose ideas are influencing the blogosphere (my own personal blogosphere, anyway). We begin with Holly of Holly’s Corner....

Why did you start blogging and what keeps you going?
It's my husband's fault. He was at me for several months before I finally gave in and tried it. I was immediately hooked and have had such fun creating new friendships and meeting new people. The only thing that could make it better is if I could find more time each day to devote to it! I have received such a confidence boost to my writing and contributions that couldn't have come any other way.
What movie(s) have you watched more than any others?
“The Bourne Identity” and “The Bourne Supremacy” have been seen more times than I can count and never get old. The release of the third isn't coming fast enough. [And] it's always sad when you can repeat every line of movies like "Spykids 3" and "The Lizzy McGuire Movie." "The Man From Snowy River" remains a classic I can still watch and the world simply wouldn't be right with "Tommy Boy."
So that’s what’s wrong with my world.... I haven’t seen “Tommy Boy.” When was your biggest day of traffic for your blog? Where did the traffic come from? What (if anything) did you do for it to happen?
I was chosen on BlogJolt and that whole week was amazing for me. I received awards, meaningfull comments and warm fuzzies. It was just so much fun. I don't remember off the top of my head what the numbers were but it was fun to watch my Technorati rank go up. When I started my blog my Technorati rank was in the 750,000 range, in less than a year's time it's in the 21,000.
What is your favorite kind of MnM?
Peanut M&Ms rule. I don't have a favorite color although I always smile when I find a green one. And I have to admit that as a kid I hated Peanut M&Ms and would only eat plain.
Holly and I share the same sordid MnM past. (Except I ended up preferring almond to peanut. And I don’t secretly smile when I find a green one.) What tune(s) can you not get out of your head at the moment?
The most recent song that keeps coming back is the one that Blake Lewis sang during American Idol last season on the 60's week. I think it's called "Season for Loving" all I know is I keep singing "What's your name? Who's your daddy? Is he rich like me?......Tell it to me softly....I really want to know....it's the time for the season of loving...." And I can still see him dancing and beat boxing to it. It was my favorite of all his performances last season. He took a song I didn't know and made me never forget it.
I’ve never seen American Idol and I’ve never heard of Blake Lewis, but I do love that song and now I’ll be singing it for the next hour. I’m glad you wrote out the lyrics – I couldn’t ever get past “Who’s your daddy?”
Finally, mostly for my own benefit, how do you deal with your children's whining (if they do)?
Children whine? LOL As my daughter has grown sometimes I'll be really sarcastic and tell her to take a quarter and call someone who cares. I've also been known to ask them if they want some cheese with their whine. But my top response is to give it right back. I'll return my answer in the same whiney and annoying tones. It seems to work for me because they really don't like that. When my 4 year old starts up in a store I'll have him repeat to me what happens when we cry or whine in the store. When he replies that we don't get anything I say that's right and that's the end of it.
A few of my favorite recent posts on Holly’s Corner:
All the fun things that come with mothering a nine year-old girl
I close with the great Dr. Seuss quote that Holly uses as her email signature: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”
