The Nursery Stalker

Even though Jonah is going through another whiney phase, it is not accompanied by clinginess this time. In fact, since coming back from our trip, the boys are doing really well in the nursery each Sunday.

Alas. We had reports the last few weeks that another little boy has seemingly singled (or doubled) out our dudes as Victims and intentionally bullies them. Like running up and pushing Benjamin down or snatching Jonah’s toy out of his hand. He doesn’t do this with anyone else. Just Jonah and Benjamin. Maybe because they’re the youngest and smallest of the group.

Seen here traipsing about with his trusty sword and shield, how could you mistake Jonah for a victim?

Here’s how the first part of Jonah’s naptime has been the past few days (after he’s put in his crib):

Reads book to self, 5 minutes
Plays with puppy, 3 minutes
Flings puppy over side of crib
Says “uh-oh” six million times, 5 minutes
Starts whimpering, 7 minutes
Gradually builds to whining, 5 minutes
A few anguished wails, 2 minutes

When I can’t stand it anymore, I go in, retrieve puppy, lay Jonah down, and cover him with a blanket.  As I go out the door, he softly says “bye” and goes to sleep.

Benjamin, a quick bop to the nose of the bully followed by your ever engaging smile is appropriate behavior.
Jonah, ditto but keep the sword handy.

We dealt with a baby bully when my oldest wasn't quite a year old. His hair is a bright orange color and she was fascinated by it. She would walk over to him and PICK HIM UP BY HIS HAIR!!! She was only 2, so it wasn't like she was a total bully, but the parents would say "Oh... no no sweetie. Be nice" and that was it, till she'd do it again. They wouldn't even go over and remove her from the situation. Just sat there and said, "No no". That made me even more upset than the fact that she was doing it! :S
