Floods in the desert
We are visiting West Texas, home of the tumbleweed, cactii, scorpions (found on our suitcase), and complete lack of rain. Except when it flash floods.
The boys and I were feeling literary and made our way to the library the other morning, despite the flash flood / thunderstorm / hail / tornado / asteroid collision / apocalypse warnings. Most of the water came down while we were inside the building (being told to keep away from the windows). But after an hour and a half, even the best children's library gets old.
I had to take off my shoes and wade across this newly-formed river to get the car.
Then we headed home. But the major thoroughfares were flooded and the cops were blocking them off.
My Dad's truck did not come equipped with water wings so we pulled over and waited out the storm in a parking lot for an hour. The boys, understandably, were frightfully anxious.
