He not only dances - he walks, too!

I've just added a few more items to my Great Gifts For Toddlers list (look under "The Lists" in the navigation bar):  a Latches board puzzle from Melissa & Doug and the clever pop-up book Truck Jam.  Both boys are enjoying these recent additions to our household!

* * *

In the last couple of days - despite all of us being laid low by the stomach flu - Jonah started taking several steps on his own.  We managed to summon up enough energy for a weak Hooray, Way To Go, and other general hoopla sounds.  Benjamin is a bit perplexed.  When he started walking a month ago, he received none of this fanfare.  I was still in the "Why would I want them to walk?" phase.  If he wanted to walk, fine, but he didn't receive much encouragement!

But I think we were all a little concerned when/if Jonah would ever walk!  He's such a fast crawler and - like a cowboy and his trusty steed - relies on his car to take him anywhere he wants to go: through the kitchen, down the sidewalk, across the lawn, up and down a stair.  In fact, Jonah wore a hole through his Robeez-style shoe and through the top layer of skin on his right toe because he uses it to brake.  (Meanwhile, Benjamin has finally figured out how to get on the car and make it move, but he still can't steer it.)

So Jonah was taking a few steps to his Grandmother (Woo-Hoo!), then a few steps to his Uncle B (Way to go!), then a few steps to me (Yea Jonah!).  Benjamin ambles over with a big expectant grin on his face: Look At Me - I'm Walking Too!!

So we had to give him some belated cheers and encouragement.

Which of course he loved.

Especially the smooching part.

I love Melissa & Doug stuff too. A word to the wise about the latching board and magnetic puzzle boards though - once the toy's been used a bit, the little metal rods that hold the hinges (of the flaps) together can fall out and become a choking hazard. (Not to mention that the flap then falls off). I suggest that you keep a close eye on the toy and if (when) they start falling out either pitch it or remove the offending flap.

Congratulations on your new walker!
