Whimpering, whompering, and Jurassic Park IV?
We put the boys to bed last night with minimal protests. But a few minutes later Jonah begins with an occasional whimper that builds into a frequent whomper. Getting a little annoyed - since this was interrupting our movie – I went in to remind him the world is most likely not about to end.
I found his lower body completely immobilized because he had trapped his legs between the wall and the crib. Good grief…skinny legs can get you into some tight places.
[Side note: The movie we were watching was “Cinema Paradiso,” which was really good. The little boy reminded us of Jonah and I commented that little boys in movies always remind us of Jonah… but what about Benjamin? “Maybe when we see a movie about a baby Tyrannosaurus who constantly eats…that will remind us of Benjamin,” said Jonathan.]
Jonah has added a new twist to “uh-oh.” Now it’s “uh-oh-teh-toh” because Jonathan taught him “uh-oh-spaghetti-o.” He also has a name for Benjamin: neh-neh. Meanwhile Benjamin’s word for Jonathan has finally morphed from “gah-gah” to “dah-dah.”
If you say someone is sleeping, both boys put their index fingers to their lips and make a noise that sometimes sounds like “shhhh.” Sometimes Benjamin’s finger slips up his nose, which he finds very amusing.
Jonah has officially emerged from his the whiney, clingy cocoon that defined the last two months of his life. He did quite well in the nursery Sunday and – for the most part – will cease the whimpering when told “no whining.”
He is walking over half the time and doesn’t seem to mind that he falls a lot. He says “uh-oh” and gets up again. Even so, we’re taking him to a physical therapy consult just to get their input as to any special things we could be doing to help build his muscle tone.
Both boys got their MMR shots the other day. They were weighed and measured beforehand. I also asked the doctor to look at their ears, which he said were completely free of any infection. Of course, Jonah started yipping the moment the doctor began to examine him. He weighs 19 ½ lbs and both boys are about 31 inches long. They’ve been sprouting the last couple of months! When we mentioned Jonah’s weight, the doctor replied that he liked skinny kids. “So many kids are fat today. Throw the percentile charts out the window. You two are both thin. He looks healthy, he’s fine.”
So, he must be awfully fond of Jonah.
