Healthy Toddler Travel Snacks
Below are some of my boys’ favorite on-the-go snacks, none of which require bowls, utensils, or bibs. These snacks are perfect for the car, waiting at the doctor, shopping, right after church, the park, etc. (I store the last few in the refrigerator – in recycled plastic Gerber food containers - then take them with us as we’re going out the door – they’re good for about an hour.)
- Pita chips. I buy a package of 8 whole wheat pita breads from a iddle Eastern market for $1, cut each pita into eight wedges, and lightly toast each side under the broiler.
- Bananas.
- Brown rice snaps. I just found these at the grocery store the other day. We’ve tried the Brown Rice and Sesame (ingredients: brown rice and sesame seeds) and Tamari Seaweeds (ingredients: brown rice, soybeans, salt, seaweed). They come in several other flavors – see below. A bit pricey, but healthy.

- Apples. As I accidentally discovered last week, even a 14 month old can handle a whole apple!
- Rice cakes.
- Cereal Trail Mix. A blend of puffed rice, puffed wheat, puffed kamut, and Cheerios.
- Kashi TLC Granola Bars. Several flovors, minimal sugar added, and delicious! They’re pretty hard, so for older toddlers only.
- Cheese cubes.
- French toast. I make a bunch with whole wheat bread once a week, then store in a ziplock bag in the fridge.
- Vegetable cubes. Steam carrots/zucchini/green beans/etc., then dice.
- Cooked macaroni. I use whole wheat.
- Eggs – hard-boiled or scrambled. Like the french toast I make a big batch that lasts for a few days.
