Viggo Mortensen: Aragorn and Alatriste

The Miami Film Festival overlapped with my parents’ visit last week. Coincidence? I think not! With such capable babysitters, Jonathan and I were able to see two movies: “Alatriste” and “Sonar No Cuesta Nada” (“A Ton of Luck”).

So we are sitting in the incredible Gusman Theatre in downtown Miami for a showing of Alatriste last Monday and a women comes out to introduce the film. Then she brings out the star of the show. Who just happens to be Viggo Mortensen. But I didn’t believe it. I said “No way!” so many times and so loudly the people ahead of us turned around in annoyance.

Mr. Mortensen just happens to have portrayed one of my most favorite characters of all time: Stryder/Aragorn from Lord of the Rings! I didn’t even know he was in “Alatriste” and there he is sixty feet in front of me on stage.

Aghhhh!

Jonathan took the photo below with his Treo - it was one of very few days since the boys' birth I didn't have my camera with me.  (from left to right:  Viggo Mortensen, his co-star, the director, the film introducer)

They said a few words, we watched the movie – which was quite good – then they came out again for a question and answer session. Then they signed a few autographs.

Oh yes – I now own a Miami Film Festival 2007 poster signed by Viggo Mortensen!

Jonathan asked him to sign it to me, specifically, so it says “Love Laura Viggo Mortensen.” Not quite sure what that means. But oh yes – I have the best husband on the planet!

And he seems like a genuinely nice guy, too. (Viggo, that is.)

Of course, some brainless twit could not have embodied Aragorn so perfectly.

So you've met the gentleman - does he come across as polite, gentell and calm as one would expect?
