Washington D.C., part 1

A few shots from our trip to Washington D.C. a couple of months ago…  We flew into (Reagan) National Airport then a few days later came back to watch the planes fly right over our heads:

The boys in the cockpit of a plane on display at the Air & Space Museum (the new Dulles Airport digs):

Walking through the woods on Roosevelt Island:

The boys discovered wild strawberries (which we don’t have in Miami) and Benjamin wanted to taste one:

We don’t have many dandelions in Miami, mostly because there is not a lot of wild, un-manicured ground.  All three boys loved sending off the seeds to new homes:

Last year I picked up a map of the Sculpture Garden at the National Gallery and the boys and I had gone over it, working on map-reading and learning a little about each artist/work.  The descriptions included a thumbnail photo of each work and it was fun to see them much bigger in real life!

I asked the boys to sketch the fountain at the center of the garden.  Benjamin took his notebook and pencil right up to the water:

Jonah stayed next to me and included Benjamin in his sketch, crossed legs and all.

We laid down a comforter for the boys to sleep on.  One night I went to cover them all up before I went to bed – and couldn’t find Silas anywhere!  I ran to the balcony doors, which were still tied together with 46 knots to prevent escapees, sleepwalkers, or who knows what.  Then I spotted him under the chair:
