Perhaps I need to get out of the house more....?

I took the boys to an outdoor concert one night.  The music was good, but I was having more fun playing around with my camera settings and trying to figure out how people get those cool light-at-night shots, like the one below where I put some kind of delay on the photo, focused it on a string of lights, then slowly moved the camera down. 

I wish I remembered exactly how I did that....
