Exhibition: Mickey Mouse on wheels
I'm not sure who was more excited to stumble across this moving van in our neighborhood - me or my boys!
Turns out that a few years ago Disney chose Suddath to handle transportation and logistics for their Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations tour, which featured 75 Mickey Mouse statues (each measuring 6 feet tall and weighing 700 pounds!). I suppose that after Suddath trucks finished their tour they just went back to their normal duties of schlepping people’s stuff here and there.
The mice were designed by various artists/entertainers/celebrities and - after a tour around the U.S - were put on the auction block to benefit charities. Ice skater Michelle Kwan designed “Peace and Love” (all the way to the left below). Veteran character artist Tuck Morgan's “Mickey Through the Years” (in the middle) features a split of Steamboat Willie and the current incarnation of Mickey. Entertainer Raven designed “Clouded Conscience” (on the right).
From left to right below are Mickey Celebrates Our Freedom” by Paul Wenzel, “Fruits of the Mouse” by Andreas Deja, and my personal favorite of the lot “Patchwork Pal” designed by Thomas Knechtel.
