Jonah:  Mama, I brought you two pieces of gum so Benjamin will be distracted and watching you making bubbles with them and I can build my ship!

And later…

“The next time we have tennis camp can you send a piece of gum with me so that my friend won’t keep saying to me:  ‘Ask your Mom to send money with you so that you can buy gelato or ice cream popsicles with swirly colors.’  If I have gum, he will stop asking me.”

And just now...

Jonah:  Can I use a copy machine to make a copy of this dollar?

Me:  Sure, you can make a copy to play with, but you can't use it to buy things - that's against the law.

Jonah (pauses to think):  But kids can't go to jail!
