Cover 1 to cover 2
I just received the latest issue of Mix Tape, hot off the Melbourne presses! My favorite aspect of Issue 5 is the concept behind the double front covers. MixTape mailed two artists the same assortment of raw materials – see the contrasting results below:

(Woo-hoo! I finally figured out how to minimize something called moiré patterns which have been fouling up my scanned images – so the above covers actually came out quite well… after about fifty-nine tries.)
I’ve always liked the author description areas. in Mix Tape... (“She loves having found a like-minded community on the internet and now feels slightly less odd.” “She comes from a long line of women who have been unable to sit still or focus on one thing for long enough to become proficient at it.” )
Other fun reads in Issue 5:
- Scanned Art
- On Beauty Bibles
- Crafty Lady Profile
- Shannon’s cartoon – as always
- Cigar Anyone? (by a cigar box collector)
- Five Ways To Refresh Your Creative Spirit
- and various answers to the question “how do you make time for the small things?”
Plus it has my best Mix Tape submission to date: an interview of my friend Allan who created his own electric vehicle! (that he charges with energy generated by solar panels!) If that sounds daunting to you, try starting out with a solar grasshopper.
I also like all the additional color pages – wonderful to see the color prints in the Artist Profile of Johanna Wright (and what an interesting life story)!
I always enjoy the ads in magazines just as much as the regular content and Mix Tape never disappoints in this regard. Little Circus Design, BrisStyle, and Jellygnite – I’m off to visit you now!
