Harvesting our pineapple

We harvested our baby pineapple!  It was growing in a pot on our patio and nearly died several times for various reasons, but survived to produce one of the best pineapples I have ever tasted!

Thanks to Bob, who grew it from the top of another pineapple then gave it to us when he moved a year ago!  We cut off the top of this one as well and I stuck it in dirt outside today!

Finds: Gran’s house

When you’ve lived in one house for nearly fifty years, you tend to accumulate some interesting things along the way.  Here are a few things I found at my grandmother's house.

Above:  a package of six "Animal Party Sticks."  They're at least a few decades old, still in their original wrapping.

Below:  an oil painting by my aunt Frances when she was in high school.

The windmill below has been there for several decades, even though they land was parceled so it no longer sits on Gran's property.

Eggplant deliciousness

Baba ganoush is a middle eastern dish made from roasted eggplants, lemon juice, and garlic (roast with the eggplant or use raw). Just throw the ingredients in the food processor until creamy – it makes a tasty dip for raw vegetables, crackers, and pita bread.

I also had an artistically presented dish from the Fresh Market yesterday called an Eggplant Stack. On an upright skewer is a thick slice of eggplant (parmesan-style), then a slab of fresh buffalo mozzarella, a slice of tomato, and another slice of eggplant – topped with a sprig of rosemary.
